AESAN-UK Business Forum

The AUBF was officially formed in February 1998 during the Asian Financial Crisis. As a direct consequence of this crisis, the perception and image of ASEAN in the UK and in Europe was tarnished. To address and combat this negative perception of ASEAN, the ASEAN London Committee (ALC) comprising of the then Their Excellencies the Ambassadors and High Commissioners of ASEAN to the Court of St James’s (UK) felt that it was vital for the ALC to rope in the ASEAN private sector to work in tandem with their Excellencies with the main objective of highlighting the positive aspects of ASEAN. Hence, their Excellencies initiated the ASEAN UK Business Forum (AUBF) comprising of a seminal group of high-calibre ASEAN professionals, academicians and businessmen representing their respective countries who are living in the UK to forge together collectively to promote the potential of trade and investment opportunities in the ASEAN region.

The ASEAN-UK Business Forum (AUBF) primary objective is two-pronged: firstly, it is dedicated to highlighting the abundant and unfolding business prospects, the legion of investment and trading opportunities in the prolific and dynamic growth ASEAN region, as well as being an idyllic destination for tourism. Secondly, it acts as an effective conduit for the business people of the United Kingdom and ASEAN to network and form strategic business alliances, thereby fostering and facilitating the ASEAN and UK Business to stay connected and beneficial to each other.

AUBF’s main brief is to promote trade and investment – a two-way process between the ten countries of ASEAN (Brunei, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand and Philippines) and the UK.

– To maintain closer relations and forge co-operations with the ASEAN Secretariat and its affiliated NGOs
– To work closely and liaise with the Ambassadors/High Commissioners of the ASEAN countries to the UK-the ASEAN London Committee (ALC)
– To promote bilateral trade between the ASEAN and the UK through better understanding of the ASEAN-wide business trends, opportunities and challenges
– To assist and provide informed perspective on the issues the UK and ASEAN based companies face in their expansion programmes
